That time the HIMYM Finale was Exactly the Same as the Friends Finale

Don't get me wrong, I love How I Met Your Mother. And the finale was fun. Just not particularly... wait for it... legendary.

And so the comparison will commence:
1) Everyone suddenly has children.

2) Something tragic happens.
3) Everyone finally moves out of the apartment.
4) A couple of characters don't really have especially exciting going on.
5) A will-they-wont-they couple that keeps getting together and breaking up end up together. Again.

Also, umm, no one seemed to care that the mother dies?  Also while I wouldn't say I "called it" I was not surprised by the ending and could have done without it. They should have ended it with Ted and Tracy under the umbrella. Robin showing up to their wedding was plenty of closure. The blue horn was a nice touch.

  1. When i first started watching the show it felt like story of friends as in Friends. But ofcourse it has it's unique side and made me fall in love with it (:

    1. It really does but it was probably the familiar style to Friends that made me like it right away too.

  2. I didn't start watching until season four or five, but I was definitely not 100% pleased with the finale. Sure, HIMYM had some episodes that were less than stellar, but this one had a bunch of good notes, and then shit on it with the last five minutes.

Plus, the Cristin Milioti (sp?) was awesome all season, and it's a shame to see her not get the send-off that (I felt) she deserved.

    1. I actually didn't like her that much for the mother, even tho she's a great actress, but it was still terrible to bring her into the show just to kill her off.

  3. I have so many opinions about this. It's starting to sit with me a little better now, but I think everything was way too rushed. Too much happened in such a small time-frame (to us -- to them it was years) that it was hard to wrap my head around it.

It's not so much that he ended up with Robin, but rather that we literally had about 15 seconds to process the death of the mother before he went after Robin. Sloppy writing, I think.

    1. I agree but heard that the scene with the kids was shot back in season 2. Hence why they still look the same age. Back then we all expected it to be Robin so it would have worked alright. But many seasons later they should have just not used it.
